Eating a Political Burger is Hard

- Daniel

In a recent campaign video to highlight caucusing, Hillary Clinton pulled out the big guns: her husband, former President and scandal hero Bill Clinton. In the beginning of the video it shows Bill running on a tread mill as the narrator describes a nice juicy burger, flipping between the burger and Bill as he is tempted with it's delicious sweetness. Then the words pop up: "Exercising is hard." Follow that with a few similar situations, like dancing, singing, and so forth. But don't worry, caucusing is easy. But keep watching, and Bill succumbs to that tender juiciness of an all-beef patty. Very clever. But I think they should have added something else, just to epitomize the Clinton legacy: "Sexual restraint is hard." Remember when that happened? "Telling the truth under oath is hard."

But aside from that, it's safe to say that Bill is a very charismatic person, but it just seems like every time Hillary needs a little boost, she calls on Bill to bail her out. This video seems no different. It seems strange that when she ran for senator of New York, she did everything she could to distance herself from him, now she can't get to the White House without him.

Who are we voting for? Bill already had his eight years. I think Hillary needs to figure out how to have charisma on her own, without to help of her 'faithful' husband. Whenever she pulls him out for those emergencies, it just seems like she's still living under his shadow. If she wants to lead this country, she needs to prove it.

You know, I watched that video, and I don't think it comes off as Hillary riding on Bill's coattails at all. I think they could have chosen just about anybody for exercising model in the video, but if you want to cut costs down, why not get as much footage from friends and family (and even self in the singing portion) as you can?

I'm not saying that I don't think Hillary has used her husband to help her gain footing, but with all the humanitarian efforts he's been involved in, and the fact that our country did not go to war during the 8 years he was in office appeal to the average American at this point, so I think it would be kind of stupid to just ignore the fact that she's married to the guy, not to mention the fact that despite him making a pretty big and very embarrassing mistake with the whole scandal thing, they didn't take the easy way out of divorce.

I'm not saying I support Hillary, but I do think she has worked hard to get to where she is. And although Bill makes a cameo in this video, I really don't think it has anything to do with him at all.

I can see your point. It's true, the video isn't about Bill overshadowing Hillary. But this comes in light of her using him to speak and make public appearances in her place. Several months ago, she even admitted that she's not as charismatic as her husband. But you're right, it has nothing to do with him, I just wish she could make due without him.

And you're right, she has accomplished a lot and worked hard to where she is now, but she became senator by distancing herself from him as much as possible. So why now? What is she offering?

As for the war, did she vote to approve the war several years ago, or did she vote against it? I'm not too clear on that at the moment.

Well, as great as it would be if she could go through everything without throwing Bill out there, I it would actually be kind of weird if she ignored him. It makes sense that she distanced herself from him while running for senator because that was fresh after the impeachment hearings. However, now after 8 years of Bush and the people being totally sick of him and thinking to themselves, "Hey, Bill wasn't so bad after all," it's the natural move.

As far as voting for the war, I don't have a source for this, but I believe that Hillary is one of those people that voted to approve the war, but now regrets making that vote.

Personally though, what I think the people should be worried about more than the war is the Patriot Act. I can't believe that everyone was so quick to sign away our basic rights, and I'm even more surprised that they renewed the whole thing when it came to the end of its term... but that's just me.
